Andy Winter reckons Hamilton Accies aren't far away from being the finished article this season and believes his strike partnership with John-Pierre Tiehi will only get stronger.
The 20-year-old forward has netted four goals this season, with one coming in the league since the Frenchman arrived on loan from Fulham last month.
Tiehi himself has a solitary goal to his name in that spell, but Winter believes the pair will find the target more often as they get more game time together and he insists things are starting to fall into place for the squad as a whole as they start trying to turn draws into wins.
Accies have been held four times in their opening six Championship games and must rely heavily on Winter and Tiehi for goal with start striker Andy Ryan sidelined for another couple of months with a knee injury.
Winter said: "I don't think we are far away from making it click.
"When you look at the results this season, we've not a lost a lot of games but we should have won more as well.
"We are in that middle point where if we push on we can make it a good season or if we don't, we can make it hard for ourselves.
"With the squad we've got we are fully capable of competing.
"Since JP he has come into the team, it allows me to drop a bit deeper.
"He is someone you know you are going to get the ball off. He will hold it up and supply chances for you.
"It's enjoyable playing alongside him. We've not had many games together yet so it is only going to get better.
"Things have dried up for me a wee bit in the last couple of weeks but I need to try and have more attempts on goal."
Winter is now one of the most experienced players in John Rankin's youthful squad, with 54 appearances under his belt at first team level, and he is thriving on that.
He added: "It's mad that I'm 20 and I'm one of the more experienced ones, but I like that.
"I think I'm at the point now where I'm not a kid anymore. I've had my learning spell and I'm now fully able to start every week.
"I just want to keep going and getting goals.
"I've played a lot of different positions and the gaffer has obviously got trust in me."
Accies saw their match at Inverness on Saturday called off as a mark of respect for the passing of Queen Elizabeth II but fixtures will go ahead this weekend, with Accies playing host to Queen's Park in a Championship clash.
