Partick Thistle transfer roundup as two depart Firhill and former player arrives as trialist

Partick Thistle are gearing up for another promotion tilt in the Scottish Championship and their squad is being revamped after a demanding 2021/22 campaign at Firhill.

League One title joy last year was followed up by a Premiership promotion play-off place in the spring but boss Ian McCall couldn't guide his beloved team back to the promised land of top tier football. But they will go again next season during a term where they will be one of the teams fancied for a title push.

The likes of Harry Milne, Anton Dowds and club hero Steven Lawless have already joined and there are a number of key positions still to be filled ahead of their Premier Sports Cup opener against Stenhousemuir in July. Then there's their league starter to look forward towards the end of that month when they travel to Dundee, who have just been relegated into Scotland's second tier.

There is still plenty going on at Firhill though as the countdown to the new season continues, with Aaron Muirhead and Jack McMillan added too. Here's our round-up of all the latest comings and goings from the Jags.

Crawford and Niang exits

Mouhamed ‘Sena’ Niang and Robbie Crawford have both had their departures from the club confirmed. Niang is heading south to join Hartlepool United on a two-year deal, having spent time at Alloa Athletic last season.

Crawford meanwhile joined the club last season from Motherwell but McCall wants to strengthen other areas of his team.

The boss said: "After a conversation with Sena it was clear he was looking for regular first team football. Our midfield area is probably our strongest part of the team so he wanted to move on to play regularly.

"With the quality we already have in midfield, I had to spend my budget on other areas of the squad which required improvement.

“Robbie is a good player and I have no doubt that he will be a success wherever he plays next, hopefully not coming back to haunt me in the future."

Mitchell swaps Leith for Maryhill

Goalkeeper David Mitchell has joined the Jags from Premiership club Hibs on a two-year-deal, the club confirmed on Thursday.

He has played more than 250 senior league games, with the majority of those coming for Stranraer where he spent six years.

McCall said: “We’re delighted to get David in because he gets us closer to our vision of the squad. We want to have multiple players good enough to start in every position to bring that competition to the club."

Former starlet on trial

Aidan Fitzpatrick has appeared as a trialist for his former club in a friendly against Alloa Athletic this week, two years after leaving for Norwich City.

The attacker initially spent time on loan at Queen of the South before joining permanently last year, but could return to Firhill this summer.
