Partick Thistle and Queens are teams we should be beating, says Hamilton striker

Hamilton Accies striker Andy Winter says beating Partick Thistle and Queen of the South in their next two fixtures can push his side up the Championship table - and they're games they should be winning.

Stuart Taylor's side head to Firhill on March 19, and host Queens seven days later as Hamilton approach the final straight in their season.

Thistle hammered Hamilton 6-1 in October and won 1-0 at Firhill the following month, before the sides battled out a 2-2 draw at New Douglas Park in January.

Results against Queen of the South have been more positive, with three straight wins over the Dumfries side.

And Winter, 20, says they're games Hamilton should be winning if they have any hopes of getting closer to a play-off slot, rather than fighting relegation.

Accies drew 2-2 with basement side Dunfermline on Saturday, and Winter says they have to draw a line under that and move on.

He said: "We have to, there's no other option at this time in the season. Two wins in a row can take you so far up the table, so you've got to look forward to the next couple of games and I think they're two that we should be winning - especially with how we can be playing.

"We have to push ourselves up the table.

"In the next two games you never know what can happen, if we take our chances and win our next few games we could start to push away."

Winter was left frustrated after Saturday's draw, with David Moyo headers cancelling out Coll Donaldson's top-corner screamer and Steven Lawless' penalty, and says his side created enough chances to have won.

He said: "I think from the game a draw was probably the fair result, but I think we did enough to win it, if you know what I mean.

Hamilton have lost twice and drawn once against Partick Thistle this season (SNS Group)

"We had chances in the second half.

"I think we started off quite well but the penalty made us drop off a wee bit, for whatever reason.

"I think towards the end of the game, with the pressure we put on them we definitely could have won it.

"I think we showed a lot of fight. There were two points in the game when we were 1-0 and 2-1 down, but the lads have fought back and got it to 2-2 but we just couldn't get it over the line in the end, when another goal would have been ideal.

"But we did have chances in the end, and I think in that respect we're maybe a wee bit disappointed that we haven't got three points."

Hamilton have drawn 11 games this season out of 29, with the same number of losses and just seven wins.

Winter says dropping points in a few games this season has been frustrating, and that continued on Saturday.

He said: "I think not getting over the line is the most frustrating thing.

"We have created a lot of chances in the game and that's probably our own fault that we've not taken them, but we keep fighting, and you're always going to get that with this squad."

Winter on Friday signed a two-year extension, and says he jumped at the opportunity, having been out for over a year with injury.

He said: "I'm happy. As soon as I knew the deal was on the table I was going to take it.

"I think this is probably the best place to play my football at the time being.

"I've been out for a long time, but I need to get back in that team and be playing every week."
