Participants compete to lure worms from the ground at quirky UK festival

Participants took part in the annual International Festival of Wormcharming in the village of Blackawton in southern England, competing to bring as many worms as possible to the surface within 20 minutes.

Contestants used vibrations, sounds and other unconventional techniques to lure worms out of the ground without digging, following rules designed to protect the animals.

The event, first held in 1984, also featured music, costumes and themed activities, drawing visitors and competitors from across the region.

Organisers said all worms were safely returned to the ground after being counted.
