Part of Mablethorpe beach has been closed off, with diggers spotted on the coastline as part of a 'renourishment' project. The closure is being carried out by the Environment Agency at a number of locations between Mablethorpe and Skegness that takes place every year.
The agency had said in a notice in Mablethorpe that it attempts to avoid working during the school holidays, meaning that work is likely to be concluded soon. The "beach nourishment" is taking place at eight spots on the Lincolnshire coast this year, including Mablethorpe, which was recently named as one of the best beaches in the country.
Four items of heavy machinery have been spotted in the coastal town for the works, with part of the beach shut off to ensure safe working. The work, which take place between Easter and the summer holidays, closes areas of the beach for "short periods of time" according to the Environment Agency.

The Agency's notice read: "The beaches will be renourished in locations between Mablethorpe and Skegness. We make every effort to avoid working during the school holidays subject to any delays.
"We work around the clock, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, between Easter and the summer holidays. The beach nourishment takes place every year and takes approximately 6-8 weeks depending on the weather conditions.
"The beach nourishment will take place at:
- Mablethorpe
- Trusthorpe
- Sutton on Sea
- Boygrift
- Moggs Eye and Huttoft
- Wolla Bank and Chapel Six Marshes
- Trunch Lane
- Ingoldmells
"The trailing suction hopper dredger will transport the sand from licensed offshore sites and pump it directly onto the beach at high tide through a 630m long steel pipeline. The sand will be pushed into the required beach profile using bulldozers and excavators - this operation will happen around each high tide and is a 24/7 operation.
"For safety reasons, when work is taking place, sections of the beach will be closed to the public for short periods of time. We will only close the sections of the beach we are working in.
"Please observe beach closure signs. Be careful with children, exercise caution with dogs and keep pets on a lead."
