Part Nottinghamshire how the lowest number of dentists in the country amid warnings that the lack of provision could lead to more 'DIY dentistry'. The Care Quality Commission has collected data showing that Ashfield has just 0.062 dentists per 1,000 people.
The figures have been published as a rate per 1,000 people for every local council area by the Local Government Association (LGA). Despite Ashfield being the worst, no local authority area has more than one dentist providing NHS treatment per 1,000 people.
Eddie Crouch, the chairman of the British Dental Association, said: "The Government must be more ambitious in its plans to reform NHS dentistry. To save this service we need real commitment – root-and-branch reform and adequate funding.
