Parking fees go digital in Paisley as council signs up to scheme

Buddies can now go digital when paying for parking in Paisley town centre with the introduction of RingGo.

The app, which can be downloaded onto mobile phones, allows drivers to pay for car parks or on-street-spaces.

People can also visit RingGo’s website or use its 0141 437 8378 number to pay – with cash payments still available at machines on site.

The Free for Three pilot remains in place at Orchard Street, Weighhouse Close, Hunter Street (upper and lower), Oakshaw, School Wynd and the Lagoon Leisure Centre.

This means the first three hours of parking after 10am at these locations is provided for free and any additional time would need to be paid for as normal.

Councillor Michelle Campbell, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s infrastructure, land and environment policy board, said: “We want to provide people using our car parks with additional forms of payment as we know it’s not always possible to have change ready to use.

“RingGo allows people to pay via their app, online or by phone and should make the process easier for those who are parking in our car parks regularly.

“You will still have the opportunity to pay by cash if you’d prefer, but the option for digital payment is a great step forward and should support people to park in Paisley town centre and visit our local businesses.”

RingGo has already been established and considered a success in many areas, including Glasgow, Edinburgh and South Lanarkshire.

Chris Head, RingGo business development manager, said: “We are delighted to begin offering our convenient parking payment option to the residents and visitors of Renfrewshire.

“RingGo is proud to partner 11 further local authorities across Scotland, and we know that many motorists who travel to and through Paisley and the surrounding areas will already be familiar with the service.”
