Jacksonville Jaguars sixth-round rookie Parker Washington made his NFL debut Sunday, but it lasted just one play. On his first career snap, the receiver and return specialist suffered a knee injury that will keep him out of action for a while.
“Parker will probably be out this week, it’s a little more significant with the knee,” Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said Monday. “He’ll undergo further testing today and tomorrow to get some more images on it. I would expect him not to be available this week.”
Washington, 21, was a healthy scratch in the first three weeks of the season. He was moved into the lineup Sunday due to an quad injury suffered by return specialist Jamal Agnew that kept the veteran out. The good news for the Jaguars is that coach Doug Pederson says Agnew has a strong chance of being ready for a Week 5 game against the Buffalo Bills.
“Agnew is doing extremely well,” Pederson said. “We’ll incorporate him back into practice on Wednesday on a limited basis and see where he is, he’s kind of day-to-day right now, but we’re optimistic.”
On his only snap Sunday, Washington fielded a 61-yard punt from the Atlanta Falcons and returned it five yards.
Agnew, 28, was a Pro Bowl returner last season and has 63 yards on four punt returns so far in 2023.
