Three people have died and four are injured following a shooting in central Paris. The incident happened near Kurdish cultural centre Ahmet-Kaya at 16 rue d’Enghien in the French capital's 10th arrondissement.
A 69-year-old suspect has been arrested by police in connection with the attack. Two of the four people who were injured are in a critical condition, officials said.
A shopkeeper in the area told AFP: “It was total panic. We locked ourselves inside.”
A source told the Mirror: "Police were called and arrested him, while also confiscating his weapon. The authorities are now advising people to avoid the area."
Anti-terrorism prosecutors are investigating the shooting but have not indicated any sign of a terrorist motive.
Police have since revealed that the gunman is a retired train driver for the French national railway company. An investigating detective said: "He is a French national who was with SNCF for many years.
Resident Emmanuel Boujenan told AFP that the shooter was detained in a hair salon.
"There were people panicking, shouting to the police and pointing to the salon 'he's in there, he's in there, go in'," he said.
Mr Boujenan said he saw two people on the floor of the salon with leg wounds.
Paris police tweeted that a police operation was underway and have asked the general public to avoid the area, which is nearby several of busy shopping streets.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said he was heading to Paris to visit the scene of the "dramatic shooting"
