Paris Olympics: Jyothi Yarraji fails to progress to women's 100m hurdles semifinals

Jyothi Yarraji, the national record holder, was unable to progress to the semifinals of the women's 100m hurdle event at the Paris Olympics on Thursday.

She is the first Indian to participate in this event at the Olympics, but her performance fell short of expectations.

In Repechage Heat 1, the 24-year-old Jyothi clocked a time of 13.17 seconds, which placed her fourth in the heat and 16th overall among the 40 competitors.

This timing was significantly slower than her national record of 12.78 seconds and a shade lower than her performance in the heats on Wednesday, where she recorded a time of 13.16 seconds.

The top two athletes from each repechage heat qualified for the semifinals.

In Heat 1, Marioune Fourie of South Africa, with a time of 12.79 seconds, and Maayke Tjin-A-Lim from the Netherlands, with a time of 12.87 seconds, secured their spots in the next round.
