The appeal behind Cabincore, last year's most soothing design trend, is understandable – so naturally, this social media phenomenon is not set to fall out of fashion in 2024.
Whatever the season, the warming aura of a cabin is desirable, and this movement brings the best of cabin life to every style of space. Some of our favorite spaces on TikTok have experimented with warm textiles, layered lighting, and richly-hued accessories to bring the design trend alive – but nobody has done it quite like Paris Jackson.
The model's living space in her Hollywood Hills abode epitomizes Cabincore beautifully – starting with her abundant use of wood that serves as the perfect base canvas.
'When we think of a cabin, we think of a rustic-looking wooden home in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by trees – this is where the trend draws its inspiration,' comments interior designer Rhiannon Johns.
'In order to create the cabincore aesthetic, you need to hone in on inspiration from the great outdoors, particularly when it comes to materials and textures. The most important one is wood, as adding wooden elements to your interior is the perfect way to make a start on creating that cabin feel in your home,' she says.
On a smaller scale, we can follow Paris' lead by experimenting with rustic shelving (whether that's a bookcase or a simple open-shelf arrangement), or we can take it to another level by adding wall paneling (or ceiling paneling) like the model.
'When it comes to textures, you want to keep things feeling warm and rustic, so consider other materials such as brushed leather and stone,' Rhiannon adds.
Wood is the key to nailing this design trend, but our color choices are similarly important. Once again, Paris has mastered the look by playing with earthy hues, such as soothing terracotta, that accentuate the aesthetic further.
'Much like your materials, you want to draw inspiration from nature to create the color palette for your home. Think soft browns and ochres, mixed with earthy greens and warm creams to create an ambience that truly romanticises cabin living,' Rhiannon comments.
If you’re someone who likes a pop of colour, this can still work. Rather than going for vibrant pinks or oranges, draw it back a little and opt for pops of terracotta to keep things earthy and rustic.”
