Freshly cooked bread, select cheeses, and a wide variety of vegetables will be part of the culinary experience for athletes and visitors at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Renowned French chefs will create gourmet dishes to be served during the Games, with approximately 40,000 meals expected to be provided daily to over 15,000 athletes from 200 countries at the Olympic village.
Sodexo Live!, a French food services company, has been chosen to manage catering at the athletes' village and 14 venues of the Paris Games. They have developed 500 recipes, including offerings at a sit-down eatery for up to 3,500 athletes, aiming to be the world's largest restaurant.
Athletes will have access to a variety of food options, including classic dishes like pasta with a French twist. Grab-and-go food stands, featuring French cuisine exclusively prepared by chefs, will also be available.
French chef Amandine Chaignot presented a unique recipe based on the iconic croissant, incorporating artichoke puree, poached egg, truffle, and cheese. Top chefs, some with Michelin stars, will cook daily at the Olympic Village, providing athletes with an opportunity to engage and learn about French cuisine.
The menu will include daily specials, salads, pastas, grilled meats, soups, and a selection of high-quality cheeses such as camembert, brie, and Ossau-Iraty. A boulangerie at the Olympic Village will offer fresh baguettes and various bread options.
Efforts to make the Games sustainable and eco-friendly include reducing plastic use and serving meals on reusable dishes. 80% of the ingredients will be sourced from France, with 60% of the food offered to visitors being plant-based.
Paris 2024 will feature four main cuisines: French, Asian, African, and Caribbean, along with international options. Visitors can enjoy plant-based dishes like a vegetarian hot-dog, and the urban park at Place de la Concorde will offer 100% vegetarian food, a first in Olympic history, during events like BMX freestyle, 3x3 basketball, skateboarding, and breakdancing.
