Parents and students at a Hunter school have been on alert after a teenage boy made a threat online.
Police became involved and the Department of Education provided extra security to the school while officers investigated the threat.
Lake Macquarie Police District officers launched an investigation into the threat against Glendale Technology High School on August 20.
A day later, police spoke to a teenage boy about the incident.
A NSW Police spokesman confirmed the teenager has since been dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
In an email to parents at the time seen by the Newcastle Herald, Glendale Technology High School principal Anthony Angel said student wellbeing and welfare were the school's highest priorities.
"Extra security has been provided to the school by the Department of Education, while police investigate a person who has made a threat against the school," the email said.
"These measures have been taken in an abundance of caution, and police do not believe it is unsafe for students, staff or members of our community to be on school grounds.
"It is expected that enhanced security will be in place over the coming days, during which the school will otherwise conduct normal teaching and learning activities."
The email said the school would work closely with police to resolve the matter.
It is unclear what exactly the threat made against the school was.
