Parents give update on Nottinghamshire toddler waiting for 'high risk' surgery

The parents of a toddler who is waiting for "high risk" surgery to fix his lungs and his heart say he has now been struck down with flu. Teddy Brimble-Coupe needs to be symptomatic free before he has more medical investigations, including a live CT scan, and then heart surgery.

Parents Jamie Brimble, of Mansfield Woodhouse, and Adele Coupe, 23, of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, are grateful they have now been given hospital accommodation to be with Teddy at Leicester's Children’s Hospital (based at Leicester Royal Infirmary).

Mr Brimble, who spent his first night in hospital accommodation last night (Tuesday, May 3) told Nottinghamshire Live his son is trapped in the hospital "24-7" as he waits for his surgery. He said: "By the time the doctors do one thing, he gets something else. He has to be symptomatic free".

His parents had forked out hundreds of pounds on hotels to be with Teddy, who has already spent much of his short life in hospital.

Mr Brimble has said a big thank you to those who donated to the £750 raised so far for his family to support Teddy. Mr Brimble said: "He is still waiting for the CT scan. All we know is they will not touch him at the moment as he is testing positive for influenza Type 3.

"By the time they do one thing, he gets something else".

Teddy underwent open heart surgery at three weeks old. He has been in and out of hospital since for further treatment and investigations.

Mr Brimble said of his time in hospital: "All the nurses say how good he is, bless him".
