Children needed to be picked up from school after it was evacuated today.
Cambridge Road Nursery and Bedford Primary, in Bootle, was evacuated after Merseyside fire and rescue service received reports of a smell of gas in the area. Fire crews rushed to Cambridge Road and closed an area that included the school.
Two crews were on the scene at 8.45am on Wednesday, June 29, and helped with the evacuation of children as a precaution. A spokesperson from Sefton Council, on behalf of the school, said that all children are now back with parents and guardians following the evacuation.

They said: "Following reports of a smell of gas in the area, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service have been in attendance at Cambridge Road, Bootle. Staff and students from Cambridge Road Nursery and Bedford Primary has been evacuated as a precautionary measure so investigations can take place.
"All children and staff have been safely evacuated and parents have been notified, there have been no reports of ill-health as a result of this incident. Local residents are advised to close their windows and people should avoid the area until the situation can be resolved."
Merseyside fire and rescue service said that crews were able to isolate the issue and ventilation is taking place. Cadent gas company is also at the scene and working to make the area safe. The exact cause of the incident is not yet known.
A spokesperson from Cadent said: "As Merseyside’s gas emergency service, our teams are on-site now to assess what’s happened and make sure everything is safe. The school took the very understandable safety-first precaution to evacuate.
"We will work closely with them to confirm when all is ok to reoccupy the building. Incidents like these are a reminder of the importance of calling the national gas emergency service as soon as a smell of gas is suspected, or damage to gas equipment happens.
