A teachers union letter calling for delayed resumption of classes and more protection against Covid has gone viral – for all the wrong reasons.
The letter from Arlington Education Association in Virginia was riddled with grammatical errors and linguistic mistakes. While it only consisted of five paragraphs, a parent from Virginia took to Twitter in a fury.
They picked up and highlighted at least 20 mishaps, to which another user suggested “they should have marked it in red pen” for effect.
“Hey @VEA4Kids, are you going to send out more of these grammar worksheets over break?” The tweet read. “My kids and I had a great time spotting errors! Did we find them all?”
The letter opened with: “On behalf of the members of the Arlington Education Association, this dire expression lends great concerns for Arlington Public Schools return plans for January 3rd, 2022.”
In another sentence, the letter used “are” when it should have said “our.”
“The fire departments in are region are exemplifying domino outbreaks as well (sic),” it read.

Fuelled by the national shortage of teachers, one fellow Twitter user slammed the parent’s criticisms, saying: “There is a dire shortage of substitute teachers right now. Maybe instead of criticizing others, you should step up and do the work.”
While others expressed their zero tolerance for nonsense.
“Some of this could have been fixed by clicking on the squiggly blue line in Word,” one said. “I’m embarrassed for them.”
Another highlighted the random reference to airlines.
“Love how they refer to airlines cancelling flights because of staffing shortages…which has nothing to do with kids and schools,” they said.
“This is splendid,” another Twitter user said. “Yet people insist that these are the best schools in the nation. Insanity.”
Another added: “These are education professionals being corrected profusely by a parent. My editorial soul experiences a warm joy.”
Ouch.
