KOLKATA: Until now whenever Mohammad Shams Aalam Shaikh spoke about Bihar government's attitude towards para-athletes it was always of the apathy or ignorance of the state and the hardship of bearing their own cost for participation in foreign meets. But on Tuesday, the paraplegic swimmer received a shot in the arm from the state government which is likely to help him create more splashes in the pool in the coming days.
The 37-year-old from Rathaus village of Madhubani district narrowly missed the podium in his record second appearance at Para Asiad as he finished fourth in men's 100M breaststroke in SB4 category with Personal Best timing at the recently concluded Hangzhou Asian Para Games.
