Paolo Di Canio sends scathing message to Antonio Conte over Tottenham transfer decision

Former West Ham United striker Paolo Di Canio has delivered a scathing verdict on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, who is on a season-long loan at Napoli.

The Frenchman signed for the Serie A club last month, and they have the option to make the deal permanent. He has featured in three games so far at Napoli, but was an unused substitute in their 4-1 thrashing of Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Ndombele, Spurs' club record signing, played 91 times for Tottenham, but he started just three times under Antonio Conte after the Italian took over last November.

At Spurs, Ndombele has received criticism from supporters and pundits for a lack of work-rate. In 2020, Jamie Carragher blasted the midfielder for completing zero sprints in the first-half of a game against Burnley at Turf Moor. Di Canio has also noted Ndombele's lack of work-rate and believes he has a lot to prove at Napoli.

"If [Luciano] Spalletti [Napoli manager] works a miracle, I will take my hat off," Di Canio told Calcio Napoli.

"This guy doesn't want to sacrifice himself without the ball. I don’t expect him to walk on water, but if he at least swam it'd be a resounding success."

The Spurs loanee will be hoping to feature when Napoli host Spezia on Saturday.
