Paolo Di Canio brands Celtic conquerors Bodo/Glimt 'salmon fishermen' in outrageous rant against Jose Mourinho

Paolo Di Canio launched into an astonishing rant against Jose Mourinho as he insisted beating Bodo/Glimt in the Europa Conference League deserved no praise.

In a hilarious tirade the former Celtic star insisted the Parkhead conquerors from the knockout round play-off were "salmon fishermen" who had been "unloading from the harbour" before Mourinho's Roma beat them 4-0 in their home second leg.

Di Canio, who revealed last year he'd been offered the Hoops job when Neil Lennon quit in 2014, is now a predictably outspoken TV pundit in Italy and his assessment of the tie was scathing.

The firebrand former striker drew on the common "farmers' league" trope and gave it a Nordic twist to belittle Mourinho's men making the semi-finals.

He said: "Jose Mourinho demands praise for reaching the semi-final of this competition, yet we criticised Inter Milan for losing to Liverpool, who will probably win the Champions League.

"Bodo/Glimt were a team made up from a bunch of salmon fishermen.

"You do realise that seven of them were unloading salmon from the harbour that day? Yet Roma and Mourinho have somehow managed to lose ten goals to this team this season.

"Look, Jose Mourinho is a myth. They say the stadium was full, but that was only because they gave tickets away at 5 Euros.

"Enough with this bulls***. It's completely ridiculous to celebrate a win over such a team as Bodo/Glimt. I know Roma well and their fans won't be fooled by this."
