Out of respect to his quarterback Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers wideout Robbie Anderson vehemently pushed back at the idea of his team adding Baker Mayfield four months ago. But now, Mayfield—like Darnold—is also his quarterback.
So, what does he have to say about him now?
Following Tuesday’s practice, the first of two joint sessions with the New England Patriots, Anderson took some time to talk to media. He would, of course, speak on his new pal Baker—whom he had nothing but praise for.
“He’s smart,” Anderson said. “He’s picked up the offense, like, rapidly. I like his energy a lot. I like that a lot about him. Like his leadership. And his confidence.”
Mayfield’s confidence served him well this past Saturday afternoon, when he led the Panthers on a strong 13-play scoring drive in the preseason opener against the Washington Commanders. It also served him well on Tuesday in Foxboro, as he connected with his other top target DJ Moore for a pretty 50-yard deep ball.
And speaking of the deep ball, that’s something Anderson can’t wait to get going with Mayfield.
“That’s exciting,” he simply said when asked of Mayfield’s willingness to throw downfield.
Sure is. Sorry, Sam.
