New Carolina Panthers wide receiver Jonathan Mingo is big, fast, strong and athletic—and he knows it.
Shortly after being selected with the 39th overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft, Mingo—from the comfort of his quiet car, no less—answered questions from team reporters through a brief video call. When asked by Joe Person of The Athletic how he can help Carolina’s first pick, quarterback Bryce Young, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound pass catcher offered up his full bag of tricks.
“I can do everything for him,” Mingo stated. “For a quarterback, you wanna get them in the flow of a game—so play a little pitch-and-catch. I can turn a little 5-yard hitch into an 80-yard touchdown.”
That kind of confidence is no coincidence, as the Ole Miss product has been compared to his fellow Rebel in A.J. Brown. Mingo, of course, is also aware of that.
“I’m a big A.J. Brown fan,” he said about who he models his game after. “I love watching A.J. Brown, been paying attention to him since high school. Big DK [Metcalf] fan, too. Deebo [Samuel]. All big receivers. I’m a fan of all receivers. I like watching DJ Chark, too. Adam Thielen. I like watching all receivers.”
Well, he’s going to get a front-row seat to watch those last two receivers very soon.
