Panthers waive DL Marquan McCall

After agreeing to terms with veteran cornerback Troy Hill on Sunday night, the Carolina Panthers had to make room to rework their current 90-man roster. And on Monday morning, they did it—in a bit of a shocker.

As announced by the team, defensive lineman Marquan McCall has been waived. The second-year defender had been listed as the Panthers’ starting nose tackle prior to this parting of ways.

Head coach Frank Reich spoke with reporters as soon as the news dropped.

“Honestly, we’re doin’ it now ’cause we think he’s gonna be on a roster somewhere,” he said. “Just comes down to two things. It comes down to a fit for us and what we’re tryin’ to do, and then we’ve had a couple guys at that position who have really looked good.”

McCall initially joined the Panthers as an undrafted free agent in the spring of 2022. The 6-foot-3, 379-pounder appeared in 16 games as a rookie, totaling 15 tackles and a quarterback hit.
