Panthers to interview former Giants HC Ben McAdoo for OC position

Before becoming head coach of the Carolina Panthers, Matt Rhule’s only prior NFL experience came as an offensive line assistant with the New York Giants in 2012. And although he never crossed paths with Ben McAdoo in that single year, it looks like they may be playing a little six degrees of separation.

As reported by Joseph Person of The Athletic, McAdoo is set to be interviewed for the Panthers’ offensive coordinator vacancy. He is now the eighth publicized candidate of the search.

McAdoo is most prominently known for his two-year stint as head coach of the Giants. “Big Blue” went 11-5 in 2016, eventually losing to the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round, and followed up with a disastrous 3-13 campaign in 2017.

Prior to taking the helm in New York, McAdoo served as the team’s offensive play-caller under Tom Coughlin—a close friend of Rhule’s—between 2014 and 2015. The Giants offense ranked 10th and eighth in those seasons, respectively.

More recently, McAdoo took up the quarterbacks coach position with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020 and a consultant spot with the Dallas Cowboys in 2021.
