Panthers signing RB Raheem Blackshear off Bills’ practice squad

After officially filling active roster spot No. 52 with linebacker Arron Mosby on Wednesday, the Carolina Panthers are set to take care of No. 53.

As first reported by Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, the team is signing running back Raheem Blackshear. The 24-year-old rusher has been a member of the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad in these early goings of the 2022 campaign.

Blackshear inked a three-year, $2.5 million deal with Buffalo as an undrafted free agent back in the spring. Prior to his NFL career, he split his five college seasons between Rutgers University and Virginia Tech.

From 2017 to 2021, Blackshear ran for 1,912 yards and 14 touchdowns off 410 carries while reeling in 123 catches for 1,213 yards and another seven scores. He also gained some experience as a returner, as he fielded 37 kickoffs and five punts.

The 5-foot-9, 190-pounder was used quite a bit by the Bills during preseason play this summer. He totaled 32 touches, 209 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns.

Blackshear may be a candidate to supplant Chuba Hubbard, who fumbled Week 2’s opening kickoff, for kick return duties.
