Back in 2016, then Knoxville-area high schooler Cade Mays had one heck of a time at a Waffle House when he was seated near then NFL Most Valuable Player Cam Newton. Well, now Mays is a Carolina Panther, and he’ll certainly have a few more bucks to hit up any Waffle House he wants from here on out.
As reported by Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network on Monday afternoon, the Panthers officially inked the second of their 2022 sixth-round picks to his rookie deal. Mays, who was taken with the 199th overall selection, now has himself a four-year, $3.8 million contract in tow.
The 6-foot-5, 311-pounder spent a pair of seasons with the University of Tennessee Volunteers following his transfer from the University of Georgia. There, he earned a nod to the 2021 All-SEC Second Team as well as an invite to the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl.
Mays is now the third member of the class to ink his pact—with fellow sixth-rounder and defensive end Amaré Barno and seventh-round cornerback Kalon Barnes having gotten to theirs last week.
