Panthers reportedly willing to trade QB Matt Corral

If there was any hope left for Matt Corral, at least in his current setting, it was probably wiped away on Friday night.

According to Mike Giardi of the NFL Network, the Carolina Panthers are open to trading the 24-year-old quarterback. With the No. 1 overall pick now in tow and a crop of four talented passing prospects to choose from, Corral may be viewed as expendable—especially with an entirely new coaching staff in place.

Corral was selected by Matt Rhule’s regime, following a move up to the 94th pick of the 2021 draft in a trade with the New England Patriots. The Ole Miss star cost the Panthers last year’s 137th pick and this year’s third-round pick (No. 76).

Unfortunately for Corral, he never got a long look during his rookie campaign. After receiving few very reps in the midst of last summer’s competition between Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, he sustained a season-ending Lisfranc fracture in the team’s preseason outing against (ironically enough) New England.

Soon after Giardi’s report, Vashti Hurt of Carolina Blitz tweeted that the Panthers are not actively shopping Corral.
