On Monday, the Carolina Panthers designated both cornerback Jaycee Horn and tight end Ian Thomas to return from injured reserve. So, they may need a couple of open spots on the active roster pretty soon.
Unfortunately, those vacancies may have just been made available at the expense of two players—as the team announced the releases of safety Matthias Farley and tight end Jordan Matthews this afternoon.
Farley has appeared in five games for the Panthers this season, primarily on special teams. He recorded a season-high 63 defensive snaps in the Week 6 loss to the Miami Dolphins, where he started in place of an injured Vonn Bell.
The Charlotte, N.C. native was first signed to the team back on Sept. 19 as a member of the practice squad.
Matthews, who was signed from the practice squad this week, is now gone after just one outing. He played 19 snaps on special teams in the Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears.
