Panthers QB Bryce Young’s status vs. Seahawks this week in question

The Seattle Seahawks are gearing up to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 3 at Lumen Field. It will be Seattle’s next opportunity to claim their first home win, and avenge last season’s 30-24 Week 14 loss to Carolina. However, there is some potentially concerning injury news. No, not from the Seahawks, but from their opponent.

Right now it appears rookie quarterback Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick from the 2023 NFL draft, is not going to play. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Young has missed his second straight practice. This is only trending in one direction: Andy Dalton.

When fans of other teams see their squad will be facing a backup quarterback, I’m sure they’re quite optimistic. But for the Seahawks, backup quarterbacks have become a form of bizarre kryptonite.

For whatever reason, Seattle has struggled when facing teams rolling with their backups, and especially at home. In 2020, a bad New York Giants team stole an ugly 17-12 win over the Seahawks with Colt McCoy playing in relief of Daniel Jones. The following year, the Cardinals claimed victory in Lumen Field with Colt McCoy, once again.

Last year, the Seahawks played the Panthers in the aforementioned Week 14 game with Sam Darold at the helm. Earlier in Week 5, they actually played Andy Dalton himself when they lost to the Saints 39-32 in New Orleans.

Here’s hoping Seattle has something else planned defensively for this go-around when facing a backup quarterback.
