Panthers QB Baker Mayfield ready for Bank of America to start rockin’

With his move from the Cleveland Browns to the Carolina Panthers, Baker Mayfield now has a new stadium to call home. And apparently, he’s ready to christen it with a good ol’ fashioned house party!

(You thought we were going to make a Progressive ad joke, didn’t you?)

Mayfield and head coach Matt Rhule spoke to reporters following Friday night’s preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills. First up was Rhule, who had plenty to say about his starter’s first shot at extended action in the 21-0 victory.

“I think the biggest thing is—I guess he’s played two preseason games—he’s protected the ball, kept the ball out of harm’s way,” Rhule said. “At the same time, not afraid to make aggressive throws. The corner route he threw to Chuba [Hubbard] was an aggressive throw. The play he made on Shi [Smith] was outside the X’s and O’s. I think we have a good feel for it. At the same time, like, he’s just getting started in this offense. He’s just getting started like, ‘Hey, what can I do?’ That’s what excites me is I think he has a lot of room to grow.”

Mayfield later agreed with that sentiment, stating he’s comfortable with his knowledge of the system and just needs to implement it on the field. He was also excited at the prospect of just being on said field this regular season, when the games and the atmosphere become a bit more real.

“Obviously, the rain delay wasn’t very friendly to our fans,” Mayfield said of his first outing at Bank of America Stadium. “But it was a good experience for us. Obviously, two weeks from now, it’s gonna be the real thing. So get a little first taste of it. But ready for that stadium to be full capacity and rockin’.”

So . . . will he rock Cleveland come Week 1?
