With some new additions following this year’s rookie minicamp, things just got a bit more crowded for the Carolina Panthers. So, let’s try to sort it all out as we head into the next phase of the offseason.
Here is our projected offensive depth chart going into this week’s organized team activities.
Under center
Position | 1st string | 2nd string | 3rd string |
QB | Andy Dalton | Bryce Young | Matt Corral |
The Panthers released Jacob Eason this past Thursday, leaving them with three quarterbacks on the chart—one that’ll be headed by Dalton going into OTAs.
Backfield
Position | 1st string | 2nd string | 3rd string | 4th string | 5th string |
RB | Miles Sanders | Chuba Hubbard | Raheem Blackshear | Spencer Brown | Cam Peoples |
FB | Giovanni Ricci |
Carolina’s backfield is starting OTAs the same way they went into rookie minicamp—with Sanders at the front of a five-man room.
Pass catchers
Position | 1st string | 2nd string | 3rd string | 4th string |
WR | Terrace Marshall Jr. | Jonathan Mingo | Damiere Byrd | Marquez Stevenson |
WR | DJ Chark | Laviska Shenault Jr. | Derek Wright | Gary Jennings |
SWR | Adam Thielen | Shi Smith | C.J. Saunders | Josh Vann |
TE | Hayden Hurst | Ian Thomas | Tommy Tremble | Stephen Sullivan |
Stevenson and Jennings were signed following rookie minicamp. They’ll round out a group that, per wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson, is currently under construction.
Offensive line
Position | 1st string | 2nd string | 3rd string | 4th string |
LT | Ikem Ekwonu | Cameron Erving | Larnel Coleman | J.D. DiRenzo |
LG | Brady Christensen | Chandler Zavala | Michael Jordan | Nash Jensen |
C | Bradley Bozeman | Sam Tecklenburg | ||
RG | Justin McCray | Cade Mays | Deonte Brown | Austin Corbett* |
RT | Taylor Moton | Ricky Lee | BJ Wilson |
With Corbett expected to miss time at the beginning of the season, both interior spots will be interesting to watch. A wildcard scenario could see the fourth-rounder Zavala winning the left guard position alongside Ekwonu (again) and Christensen sliding over to the right.
