The injuries for the Carolina Panthers have not been limited to just their active roster.
As first reported by Darin Gantt of Panthers.com on Friday afternoon, the team has placed wideout Derek Wright on practice squad injured reserve. The 25-year-old pass catcher sustained a knee injury during Thursday’s practice in the lead-up to this weekend’s contest against the Tennessee Titans.
Wright first joined the Panthers as an undrafted free agent out of Utah State University last spring. He’d go on to spend the 2022 campaign on the team’s practice squad and sign a reserve/future deal with Carolina on Jan. 9, 2023.
Despite being named to the initial 53-man roster for this season, Wright—along with quarterback Matt Corral and linebacker Chandler Wooten—would be waived just a day later on Aug. 30. He and Wooten then returned as members of the practice squad the following afternoon.
The injury now leaves the group with 15 players.
