The Houston Texans no longer have to worry between March and the first day of the NFL draft about a team jumping them for No. 1 overall.
According to Alyssa Barbieri from the Bears Wire, the Chicago Bears have agreed to a trade that would send the No. 1 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers, one of the four quarterback-needy teams in the top-10 of the 2023 NFL draft.
If the Panthers are after a quarterback with the top overall pick, it assuredly means the Texans will be picking the presumed second-best signal caller in the class.
The ransom to get No. 1 overall included receiver D.J. Moore, the Panthers’ 2023 Nos. 9 (Round 1) and 61 (Round 2) overall picks, a 2024 first-rounder, and a 2025 second-rounder.
Part of what sweetened the pot for the Bears was the Panthers throwing in Moore, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, as Chicago intended to add him in free agency.
