Panthers GM Scott Fitterer: We’ve had agents reach out to us about HC job

How sexy is the Carolina Panthers’ head-coaching job? Well, pretty damn sexy if you talk to general manager Scott Fitterer.

On Monday, Fitterer was asked what makes his team’s open position an attractive one. And he started by giving us some cheeky info.

“It’s funny, ’cause we’ve had agents that’ve reach out to us,” he said. “But, obviously, we can’t start the process yet. We have to be very careful in those rules.”

This jives with what CBS Sports lead NFL insider Jonathan Jones reported on Sunday. Jones noted that University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh initiated the recent conversation about the job with Panthers owner David Tepper—not the other way around.

Fitterer went on to say that the Panthers are in a prime position to pounce on a wounded NFC South, for whoever is looking to lead them.

“But I think this is a very, very attractive job,” he continued. “This is a young team, this division is up for grabs here in the next few years, no dominant quarterback. They look at our defense, they look at our offensive line, some of the pieces that we have and the way we’re growing right now. And with a few tweaks here and there, this is a division that we can take over. That opportunity is there. It’s up to us to do it.

“I think they see that. They like the ownership situation. They know Mr. Tepper will be there to support them. It’s a very attractive job.”
