Ryanair passenger ‘nearly sucked out of window’ during flight from Greece

• A Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, made an emergency landing on Friday after a passenger was partially sucked through a dislodged window shortly after takeoff.
• Local media and airport sources reported that a piece of the engine broke off, smashing a window and causing cabin decompression, with one person receiving medical assistance.
• The aircraft involved was identified as a Boeing 737 NG, and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is ready to assist the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) in the investigation.
• This incident raises concerns due to a similar fatal event in 2018 involving a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 NG, where a fan blade failure led to a broken window and a passenger being killed.
• Following the 2018 accident, regulators mandated more frequent inspections of fan blades on 737 NG planes, and the same Ryanair aircraft had also diverted back to Thessaloniki the previous day for an unclear reason.
