Panic in Glasgow city centre as St Enoch Square sealed off after daylight stabbing

A major police operation was launched in Glasgow city centre after reports of a stabbing near St Enoch Square left one person in hospital.

Emergency services rushed to the busy area at around 2.15pm on Sunday following reports of a serious assault in broad daylight. Police cordoned off parts of St Enoch Square with blue tape while officers sealed off surrounding streets and carried out enquiries.

According to reports from The Scottish Sun, the incident is believed to involve a stabbing. Authorities confirmed that one person was injured and taken to hospital, although their condition has not been disclosed.

Police Scotland said there was no wider threat to the public but urged people to avoid the area while investigations continued.

The St Enoch subway station was temporarily closed as officers responded to the incident, though it later reopened with police remaining on guard outside the entrance.

A local shopkeeper told reporters they had heard a person was lying injured for some time before emergency crews arrived.

In a statement, Police Scotland Greater Glasgow said: “Officers have closed the area around St Enoch Square following a report of a serious assault around 2.15pm on Sunday, 17 May.”
