Pamela Anderson's money woes 'shocked' documentary director who 'assumed' she was rich

Pamela Anderson opens up about her "shocking" financial troubles in her new Netflix documentary Pamela, A Love Story and admits she isn't "a good financial planner".

Despite becoming a world famous star thanks to her role in Baywatch, Pamela earns just £800 a year from the TV show’s royalties and said she doesn't have a "nest egg" to rely on.

Her new documentary has now been released, with the film's director Ryan White saying he was surprised to hear about Pamela's "humanising" money woes.

"She was the most famous woman in the world on the most famous show in the world and she doesn't have a nest egg from from Baywatch to rely upon," he said in a new interview.

Ryan said he had "just assumed" Pamela was "extremely wealthy" because she has long been an "icon" in pop culture.

The filmmaker said he didn't learn about her money issues until they were partway through filming.

Pamela and Ryan had gone out for food and the actress insisted on paying for once. As she used her credit card, she joked about how it often gets rejected because she is "not a good financial planner".

"It's shocking for how for how famous she is and how much much a part of American pop culture she's been for the last 30-something years that she had been in financial trouble that many times.

"It was really revealing and really humanising," Ryan told Yahoo! Entertainment.

The revelations come after Pamela's ex-husband Jon Peters claimed he is going to leave her $10million in his will "whether she needs it or not".

His announcement comes despite the former couple being married for just 12 days.

The Baywatch star and Batman film producer have been long-time pals and decided to tie the knot in 2020. They called off their union only 12 days later, but have managed to still remain friends.

Jon said: "I will always love Pamela, always in my heart. As a matter of fact, I left her $10million in my will. And she doesn't even know that. Nobody knows that."

"I'm just saying it for the first time with you. I probably shouldn't be saying it. So that's for her, whether she needs it or not," he told Variety.

After making the decision to call off their union, Pamela claimed they had never filed the paperwork and so were never legally married.
