Palworld 1.0 patch notes are so large at over 10,000 words they almost didn't fit on Steam, but Pocketpair managed to fix them "without making any compromise"

Palworld creatures opening gifts.

It's a big day tomorrow, July 10, because Palworld 1.0 finally arrives, kicking off a new era for the monster-collecting survival game. All sorts of preparations are going on at developer Pocketpair, including getting the patch notes ready, which has proven more troublesome than normal due to how long they are.

So long, in fact, that they reached – and surpassed – Steam's character limit on update posts. John 'Bucky' Buckley, the head of publishing and communications at Pocketpair, put up a screenshot of his predicament on Twitter.

"How to fit… patch notes… on Steam," he captions an image, showing that the latest post had exceeded the 32,000 character limit of Valve's marketplace. Pocketpair's document was sitting at 10,626 words, and 66,550 characters. Bit of an overshot. A tricky problem, but where there's a will, there's a way, and just over two hours later, he posted an optimistic follow-up.

"Fixed it without making any compromise," he says. "See you tomorrow gamers." This has sent ripples through the community, as players who're ready to dig in start contemplating the notion of reading the novella's worth of changes for everything that's been added and tweaked.

There are 27 pages of patch notes in total, and when goaded to share them pre-emptively, Buckley made a classic move and posted a low resolution image of the whole thing. Impossible to read, but hilarious. One fan on Reddit made the same joke I did, by responding with that quote from Zoolander: "What is this? A center for ants?"

And seriously, John, what is this? Patch notes for ants? But players are bracing themselves. "Time to make time to read the book," says one Redditor. "What a way to generate hype for an update," adds another. "'We changed so many things that Steam can't even list all of them.'"

Palworld's always been good at getting people talking, and this is no exception. We'll see what emerges when it's time for 1.0.

Palworld price won't increase as update 1.0 takes it out of early access, Pocketpair says it's "a small way of saying thank you" after unbelievable success.
