Palnackie Primary pupils say good by to retiring principal teacher

Palnackie Primary pupils said good bye to their principal teacher this week.

Barbara Valentine is retiring to spend more time with her new grand-daughter. She qualified from St Andrew’s College of Education in Bearsden in 1988 and worked at St Andrew’s Primary in Dumfries before moving to St Peter’s Primary in Dalbeattie.

And when she became the head teacher she followed in the footsteps of her dad Jim McDonald who had been the head teacher for around 30 years.

Barbara was the final head at St Peter’s before it closed in 2016 at which point she moved to Palnackie as principal teacher where she has also been acting head.
