Pakistan VPN ban: how to stay safe online and bypass restrictions

Update: On December 1, 2024, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) withdrew plans for the VPN ban "over lack of legal grounds." We will keep monitoring the situation and update this page as the Pakistan VPN debate evolves.

While VPN usage in Pakistan has never been so high, the government threatened to introduce a new policy to ban the use of "unregistered" services starting from November 30, 2024. Yet, a day after the deadline, the country's telecoms body has withdrawn its plans for the VPN ban "over lack of legal grounds."
