There remains a slim mathematical chance for the Netherlands national cricket team to progress, but that would require a significant win over India in Ahmedabad on the same day — a scenario considered highly unlikely.
Despite the setback, Tariq insisted the team has taken corrective steps following the loss to India.
“Lifting the team is only difficult when you don't work on your mistakes committed in the last game,” Tariq told reporters. “We have worked on our mistakes, so I think it will not be a tough task. We have a resolve not to commit the same mistakes again.”
Pakistan faced criticism for electing to field first against India before being bowled out for just 114 in 18 overs while chasing a target of 176. The batting collapse drew widespread disappointment from fans across the country.
“We can feel their disappointment because the match is watched by the whole nation,” Tariq said. “So we feel their pain, but I am sure when we play them next, we will put up a better show.”
Tariq also dismissed speculation surrounding the potential omission of key players, including captain Babar Azam and pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi, after their underwhelming performances against India.
“Both Azam and Shaheen have won many matches for Pakistan, so if they did not perform well in one game, we should not write them off,” he added.
Pakistan have faced Namibia only once before in a T20 International. Meanwhile, Namibia have lost all three of their group-stage matches, making Pakistan strong favorites heading into the contest.
Confident about the team’s ambitions, Tariq concluded, “Whoever we play, we have the confidence to beat them. Our goal is to play the final and win the cup, and we will try our best to achieve that.”
