Pakistan requested Iran on Wednesday to hunt down terrorists who attacked and killed four soldiers near the southwestern borders of the country.
Four Pakistani soldiers were killed while on patrol in Balochistan, according to officials.
“Terrorists used Iranian soil to target a convoy of security forces patrolling along the border,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
It added that the "Iranian side has been asked to hunt down the terrorists on their side”.
No group immediately claimed responsibility.
Separately, the Pakistani military Wednesday raided a suspected terrorist hideout in Balochistan's Hoshab district. The ensuing "heavy exchange of fire” killed four terrorists.
The terrorists were linked with firing incidents on security forces and civilians besides plotting to plant explosive devices.
Moreover, a zone for terrorists was identified and the security forces were ordered to take action, the ISPR said.
The military also discovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including improvised explosive devices.
Violence escalated in Pakistan following the collapse of peace talks between Islamabad and Taliban fighters who are hiding in Afghanistan.
Balochistan is the largest province of Pakistan on the border with Afghanistan and Iran. It is a regular target of extremist Islamists, sectarian groups, and national separatists.
