Pakistan bowlers lack consistency: Morne Morkel

BENGALURU: A total of 1108 runs in 180.3 overs: that's the number of runs conceded by Pakistan bowlers in four matches thus far. For a team with a legacy of potent bowling attacks, the numbers speak of a struggling team.

While they miss Naseem Shah, the performance of fellow pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, before Friday's match against Australia, was hardly lethal. The spinners too have failed to turn on the heat and the bowling in the middle overs was all over the place.

Pakistan bowling coach Morne Morkel conceded that the team was missing the services of Shah, but the rest of the team was trying to step up. "Bowling with the new ball in Powerplays is slightly new for Hasan Ali and Haris Rauf. But with the opportunity we've given them they are standing up to the occasion. But it is quite tough with a new ball in India," explained the former South African pace ace.

Morkel also conceded that his bowlers lacked consistency, especially against Australia. "If we want to lift that trophy on November 19, we need to create consistency. For that to happen we're going to create pressure."
