The town that the sari forgot to mention
Paithan sits about 25 kilometres from Aurangabad, on the southern bank of the Godavari, and it does not announce itself. The road in is unremarkable. The market is the kind you pass through. But walk into the residential lanes behind the main bazaar and you will hear, before you see anything, the percussion of the pit loom, a low, rhythmic thud that has been coming from these houses for close to two thousand years.
