Procurator fiscal depute Amber Feeney previously told Paisley Sheriff Court: “Around 11.20pm, police were instructed to attend an ongoing disturbance regarding a number of people having a stand up fight.

“Police were dealing with a male who had a head injury when they were approached by the accused.

“It was clear to officers that the accused was extremely intoxicated as his speech was slurred, his eyes were glazed and he seemed agitated and erratic.

“On searching the accused, officers found a clear bag of herbal cannabis and another clear plastic bag containing white powder.

“Police offered to take the accused home and throughout the journey he seem agitated and aggressive.

“He stated to officers that he would, ‘Find the boy who hurt his pal’, and stated he would cause public disorder if police left him.

“While being taken to Govan police station, the accused’s behaviour changed and he was profusely sweating, having outbursts and there were changes in his mood.

“Officers believed this was excited delirium and took the accused to A&E at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he received four sedative injections, but they had little effect on him.

“Police tried to restrain the accused when he became violent and lashed out.

“There was a short struggle when he attempted to bite police officers and he was eventually handcuffed.

“He continued to kick out with his feet, but he wasn’t cautioned and charged due to his intoxication.”

Charlie McCusker, defence solicitor, told the court Officer realises his conduct is unacceptable and that since the incident, he has “removed himself from negative associations” and no longer drinks alcohol.

Mr McCusker highlighted that a criminal justice social work report had been carried out and was in “very good” terms.

Sentencing, Sheriff Lindsay Kooner said: “I was concerned of the nature of these offences.

“These were offences that were committed in the hospital, but you’ve told me you understand the gravity of this towards police officers.

“The criminal justice social work report states that you indicate that you are a different person and that is extremely positive.”

Sheriff Kooner fined Officer, of Ferguslie Walk, £140 and ordered this to be paid at £10 per fortnight.

In addition, Officer will be required to carry out 130 hours of unpaid work in the community within 12 months.
