Paisley Salvation Army is holding craft fayre to raise money

The Salvation Army is holding its first craft fayre in Paisley since the Coronavirus pandemic brought things to a standstill - and is hoping for great support from Buddies.

It will take place on Saturday, from 11am to 2pm, in the Mill Street base and there will be a wide range of stalls selling various goodies such as gifts, art and home baking.

There will also be a café for visitors to enjoy some tea, coffee, soup and rolls after browsing through all the stalls.

Janette Howie, event organiser and retired captain of the Salvation Army, said: “This is the first one we have had since covid.

"We used to have two a year before the pandemic. It has been quite successful in the past and we are hoping that, because we have not had one for a long time, there will be some interest.

“This is the last one that I am going to organise as I am starting to feel my age, but we have been doing this since 2017 right through until we had to stop because of covid. I will still be around, of course."

The money that is raised at the baking stall, the café and the fee of £10 for the use of the table at the fayre will be donated to the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army offers unconditional friendship and practical help to people of all ages, backgrounds and needs.

They work nationally and within local communities where they have 650 churches and centres all across the UK and Ireland and they also work alongside decision makers to make sure that views and voices of vulnerable people are heard.

Captain Elliot Kervin and his wife Captain Megan Kervin are also looking forward to the event’s reopening since covid.

He said: “We are definitely looking forward to it. It is good to be able to host it again and welcome people back into the building after such a long period. It will be great to be able to meet other people again.”

Entry into the fayre is free and all are welcome.
