Paisley pub has big heart as thousands of pounds raised for vital foundation

A fundraising event held in Paisley for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) was a great success.

The shindig was held at Kennedys Bar on Causeyside Street and raised an incredible £2,400 for the charity.

The BHF funds medical research related to cardiovascular disease and raises awareness of heart-related conditions.

Hugh Stevenson, who helped organise the event, said: “Throughout the whole day and night, the place was absolutely mobbed from start to finish – everyone just seemed to have a blast.

“Everyone was putting a lot of money in for raffle tickets and just putting whatever change they had in their pockets.

“Those that attended were really up for it and they knew it was a fundraising event so they knew exactly what they were there for and they all joined in and had a great time.

“The bands that played were absolutely fantastic – everyone was dancing and just really enjoying themselves.

“It was definitely a successful day, lots of people came out in support of the event. It is unbelievable.”

The fundraiser was the first one to be held since the start of the covid pandemic and, over the years, has raised more than £12,000 for the charity.

There was a raffle and five live bands playing over an hour each to keep the atmosphere lively and full of fun.

This year’s band line-up included Canyon, Trunk Monkey, Sad Ida, The Black Triangles and Wreckless.

The BHF also provides online information and support to help encourage others to live a healthy lifestyle and they also campaign to protect heart health and fight for better services for heart patients.

Hugh added: “Everything that you get now, including operations and things such as your new valves, your stents and bypasses, it is the British Heart Foundation that sorts that out.

“It is amazing, they are saving lives. They also save babies as well. Everyone is helped and included.”
