Paisley Pirates start 2022 in perfect style with comfortable win over Kirkcaldy Kestrels

Paisley Pirates shook off their rink rust to sail to a comfortable 4-1 victory against an ill-disciplined Kirkcaldy Kestrels.

In their first match of 2022, the Pirates took to the ice at Braehead Arena looking to ensure their long-awaited return to action didn’t end up turning out to be a damp squib.

And the Paisley side sprinted to an early lead when they raced forward and slammed past the keeper within the opening four minutes of the first session.

In the second session the hosts quickly doubled their lead, before making it three shortly after to build up a healthy looking lead.

The Kestrels clawed one back on the half hour mark, giving the Fifers hope they would still get something from the game.

But the Pirates weren’t finished yet, with the hosts taking advantage of several Kestrels being in the penalty box for various offences by netting their fourth and putting the match to bed.

Player of the match went to netminder Graeme Meechan for a dominant display between the posts to keep his side in front on the day.

The win lifts the Paisley side to second in the SNL table, behind only Aberdeen Lynx and having played two games less that the table-toppers .

Next up for Ian Turley’s men is a tricky trip this Saturday to take on Belfast SNL Giants.
