Paisley Pirates hoping for bumper crowd for league opener as new signings give club more attacking threat

Paisley Pirates coach Adam Walker is urging fans to come and back the new-look club in their league opener this weekend.

The Renfrewshire side take on North Ayrshire Wild this Sunday at the Braehead Arena as their 2022/23 SNL campaign finally gets under way.

Walker believes the Pirates are set to take the league by storm this season after bringing in a number of new attacking options to give them more firepower up front.

Walker said: “There’s been a lot of changes to the team. We’ve added experience and strength in certain areas, particularly up front.

“The new guys all add something and we’re trying to have more of a scoring punch up front. We’d like us to be more offensive this season and we definitely lacked that goalscoring touch last season.

“We’re hoping for a good crowd because the more we have in the building, the easier it is for our guys to get fired up and concentrate on the game.

“The season started last weekend but we didn’t have a fixture. Wild will be going into their third game against us, so they’ll be a bit more match sharp. The ice only went down at Braehead recently, so the free weekend actually gave us a few extra sessions together and allowed us to work more with the new guys and gel the team.

“The delay could have worked in our favour and I’m confident we can go out and get a good result.”

Face-off on Sunday is at 5pm.
