Paisley art group going strong as youngsters show off spectacular paintings

Talented artists have been showing off their fantastic paintings at their Paisley studio this week.

Local organisation Made in Paisley once feared the Covid-19 pandemic could spell the end for the group, but determined members, particularly the youngsters, have kept it going strong with their love of art.

They gathered at the weekend to brush up on their skills at the group's weekly workshops.

Caroline Gormley, who runs the group with partner Alexander Guy in Paisley High Street, says it's been great to see a small community build through the classes which only started back in September 2018.

The studio offers young people and adults a space to come along and create their own paintings, with Caroline and Alexander teaching techniques and helping members reach their artistic potential.

Caroline said: "The idea was to give adults and children the opportunity to come and enjoy the arts in the community.

"We have five classes for children, and initially I thought the kids would only stay for 10 weeks but we've still got so many of they kids four years later.

"It's not just about learning to draw and paint, they built up their own wee community and made friends too.

"It was difficult during the lockdowns but it's great to have everyone together again."

This week, Caroline was able to show off her stunning new painting which was loved by all.

She explained: "It's called 'Portrait without a face'. It's really about the lengths you go to hide what's really going on underneath.

"It was part of a demonstration I was doing and that's it completed now six weeks later."

And speaking on how well the group has been shaping up since lockdown restrictions, Caroline added: "It's been a success. We've been fortunate.

"We could've went under during the lockdowns, so it's felt like we've kickstarted again since coming back. And people appreciate it, and we appreciate that they appreciate us."

The classes have been very rewarding for Caroline who has watched youngsters flourish in recent years. She gave a special mention to 15-year-old Jack Dunn who recently made his first commission from one of his paintings after a local woman saw his work on display.
