A 34-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman have been charged with manslaughter after allegedly leaving behind a boy in a car that was later struck by a semi-trailer.
Detectives allege the group was travelling along the Carnarvon Highway, near Injune in southern Queensland, on January 6 last year when their car rolled several times, coming to a stop on the road.
It's alleged the adults were able to free themselves but left six-year-old Riley Wells in the vehicle which was then struck by a passing prime mover.
Riley died at the scene.
The man and woman were treated at the site of the crash by rescue crews and then taken to hospital in Roma.
Police said the group were returning from a kangaroo-shooting trip nearby.
A 34-year-old Roma man has been charged with one count each of manslaughter, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and taking a protected animal.
A 19-year-old Imbil woman has been charged with one count each of manslaughter and taking a protected animal.
Both were granted police bail and will appear in Roma Magistrates Court in mid-January.
A memorial ride for Riley will be held in Roma on January 14, with participants encouraged to wear his favourite colours of orange and green.
